Social Committee Report

The year began with a Theatre Trip to see “Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. This was a great show and enjoyed by all that came along.

The next social event that followed was a night out at Hollywood Bowl organised by Siän Edwards, where everyone was mixed into teams with new and old friends. There were teams of children and adults - over 90 people attended this event and it really was a fun night.  It proved to be such a successful night that we hope another night can be organised during 2006.

In July, Janet and Janet Wood kindly organised a Family BBQ at Bushey Manor School this once again proved to be a major success and was a great day. The weather did help - it was a spectacular Summer’s day.  The Bouncy Castle and trampoline helped kept the children amused. Thankfully, Janet and John have volunteered to organise another Family BBQ during 2006.

The Quiz Night has now become an annual event!  It is a time for adults to put their thinking caps on and try and win the Quiz – and believe me the questions are not easy!!!  This event in November was well attended and was our biggest fund raising event for the club, raising over £400.00. The money raised from this event goes towards Teachers courses.  Thank you to everyone who brought family and friends along.

The last event of the year was a trip to the Pantomime (oh yes, it was!) to see Cinderella at the Watford Palace Theatre. It was a great night. Most people saying it was one of the best Pantos they had seen!

At the moment we only have a couple of events booked for 2006.

Saturday 4th March @ 8.00 p.m. – BASC 80th Birthday Bash.

Bring your friends and family along to celebrate 80 years of Bushey Amateur Swimming at the Blue Check Restaurant, High Street, Bushey. Choose three courses from the specially created menu along with coffee for just £23.00 per person. Then dance the night away to the disco. Sign up list is now available at the desk on Sundays.

Saturday 15th July – Family BBQ at Bushey Manor JM School, Grange Road, Bushey, Herts.

No other events have yet been planned as we need more helpers. During 2006 events will not be able to take place if we do not get other helpers. Sian and I have been on the Social Committee for the last three years as well as being Membership Secretary and Club Secretary respectively. We would now both welcome the opportunity to step down. Everyone seems to like getting together socially with old friends and making new friends especially the children, so to make this possible we need your help.  Please contact me or Siän Edwards if you can help in anyway, it needn’t be for every social event.

Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to some very special people Siän Edwards, Kerry Hardstaff and Liz Hughes, who have helped throughout the year organise these events and they have helped on the desk for four consecutive weeks at the beginning of each term.
