We now move to the exciting part of the evening when we recognise the achievements of all our club swimmers and present awards to a large proportion of them to mark their endeavour and success.
A special reminder to the winners: some of these awards (the cups and shields) are only yours for a year – many of them are very old and some are very valuable. Please do look after them – treat them with care and clean them with the proper cleaning materials. If you get one of these awards, David Evans will give you an insurance statement that needs to be signed and returned to him immediately. Because you cannot keep these trophies we will at next year’s AGM give you a replica award and certificate to mark the achievement – the replicas and certificates for our 2004 trophy winners are over there waiting for collection.
Speed Awards Certificates
During 2005 the club has continued to monitor progress of our swimmers using the ASA Sprint Awards. The times are shown on the club website. We now have some 50 swimmers registered for the scheme.
When a swimmer achieves the qualifying times in all competitive strokes and the individual medley they are presented with their certificate. At the Annual Awards Ceremony tonight we are presenting the most recently gained certificates:
At Bronze level
Naomi Raw
Sophie Lockett
At Silver level
Sophie Lockett
Robbie Waddup

Club Championships
We held three Club Championships during the year. Points are awarded for each event and the overall age group winner for the boys and for the girls respectively is presented with the age group award. This year quite unusually no swimmer achieved maximum points in club championship events for their age group, however we did see FIVE Club Championship records broken in the year; These were:
Girls U10 25m Free Naomi Raw 17.81 sec.
Girls U10 50m Free Alison Binns 38.54 sec.
Boys U12 50m Sprint Stephen Raynsford 33.70 sec.
Boys U14 100m Breast Peter Ridout 1.27.26 sec.
Boys Open 100m IM Stuart Long 1.08.48 sec
Two of these records were longstanding ones. Stephen broke a 12 year old record for the U12 sprint and Peter magnificently broke a 24 year old record for the Boys U14 breaststroke. For all five record breakers we have certificates to mark their achievements.
And moving on to present the trophies to the overall age group winners for the three club championships held in 2005. The winners are:

Junior and Senior Style Competitions
The style competition is a unique event in the Club diary as the total emphasis is on style – so it is not necessarily the fastest swimmer that wins!
Swimmers have to demonstrate their swimming style over three strokes of their choice. Independent judges mark each stroke and their scores are aggregated to give an overall score per stroke. The winner is the swimmer achieving the highest score across their chosen strokes.
In 2005 our winners are:
Junior Boys Style Oliver Edwards
Junior Girls Style Sian Lockett
Senior Boys Style Kevin Binns
Senior Girls Style Eva Waddup

Overall Endeavour
The overall endeavour award this year goes to a club swimmer who has worked really hard throughout the year to improve her strokes and speed – she has competed in club competitions, attended lessons regularly and achieved badges – in recognition of her efforts
This year the Bill Dowse goblet for Endeavour goes to
Miriam Jones
Tony Amos
The Tony Amos award is usually
presented to one of our young swimmer to recognise Tony’s interest in
teaching juniors. This year the award goes to one of our youngest
swimmers. Through 2005 he has shown steady progress, he always partakes in
lessons fully and with endless enthusiasm and he shows lots of promise for
the future.
For his efforts in 2005, the Tony Amos cup goes to
Charlie Mitchell
Chairman’s Shield
The Chairman’s Shield is awarded to the swimmer who has achieved the best results in Open Competitions.
In 2005 we had a significant number of club swimmers who took part in the County BAGCATs and other open meets. A lot of personal best times were swum. However, one club member had particular success at several of these open competitions so this year
The Chairman’s Shield goes to
Alison Binns
Gala Performance
The next two awards are made by our Club Captains for 2005: Stephanie Holpin and Jonathan Harding:
Gala Performance Girls Alice Garnier
Gala Performance Boys Thomas Hughes
So to the last two awards of the evening.
Vice Chairman’s Shield
The Vice Chairman’s Shield as a general rule this award is given at the discretion of the teachers and has in the past been given for commitment or support to the club. This year it was decided unanimously that the award should go to an exceptional member of the teaching staff who has given over 30 years service to the club during which time he has held nearly every post as well as being one of the mainstay teachers. It is hard to believe that during this period he has taught over 200 boys and girls to swim. It is with great pleasure that I announce that this year the Vice Chairman’s Shield goes to
Dick Earley
President’s Cup
The President’s Cup is awarded to the overall swimmer of the year. This year’s award winner won their Club Championship age group with maximum points and also his age group 50m sprint event, 200m-event and style competition. He finished 2nd in the 1500m competition and also the open 50m dash. He has competed consistently well for the club in inter-club galas and has also improved his PBs in all strokes throughout the year. In recognition of an excellent year
The President’s Cup goes to
Daniel Evans.
Gala Medals
Finally we have a medal for everyone who has swum for the Club in an external gala during 2005. Seventy three swimmers have represented Bushey ASC –taking part in Herts Major League, Peanuts League and Chiltern League galas plus a couple of friendly galas with other local clubs. To save your hands from getting sore I am going to call them up in their gala squads.
And this year we also have medals for the coaches and officials of our very successful 2005 gala squads:
B Long
P Holpin
C Clifford
A Edwards
D Evans
K Lockett
H Willis
K Waddup
K Hardstaff
A Hardstaff
