This time last year we reported that membership grew over the previous year to 167 members, a very healthy growth during 2004. Well, this year at the time of writing, the current membership stands at 204, an increase of 22% over the previous year!
This growth is excellent news for the Club and has been followed by an increase in swim time for the vast majority of swimmers as well as providing the opportunity for many more swimmers to swim competitively for the Club. We currently have two squads competing in the Herts Major League, we have entered a squad into the Chiltern League and we still have the Peanuts League to come for our younger swimmers. This is really only possible for a club with the size of membership ours is now at.
With the above in mind though, we would like to re-assure you that the focus of the Club remains on the quality of teaching and learning rather than the quantity of swimmers, and this is borne out by us introducing new sessions on Sunday and Tuesday at 7.00pm, plus a re-structure of the Thursday evening swim at Watford Girls. All this has been managed extremely well and we would like to thank the teachers for being flexible in taking on these new sessions.
Of course, this growth doesn’t just happen and we would like to thank the teachers for regularly assessing their classes for movement and spaces, to everyone who continue to ‘spread the word’ about the Club, and those who are involved with keeping the waiting list manageable by taking regular assessments of new swimmers.
At his stage, we would like to take this opportunity to remind swimmers and parents of the Club policy regarding membership renewals. To ensure that the Club has adequate insurance cover, all membership renewals must be paid by the last day of January and any termly fees paid by the due date for that term. Also, we would like to remind all swimmers to ensure that they register their attendance each Sunday at the front desk. This allows the Club to have an ‘at-a-glance’ view of attendance figures. we would also like to ask that the Club be kept informed of any changes to membership details; addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses etc.
Finally, after almost 4 years as Membership Secretary we will be handing over the reigns to Janet and John Wood with effect from the AGM and we would like to welcome them into their new roles and to wish them every success. We would like to thank everyone involved with the Club for their help and support during our tenure and for ensuring that the Club continues to go from strength to strength.
