Poolside Report

Firstly I would like to say well done to all swimmers for a very successful year. The improvement in style and speed has been very noticeable on poolside – keep it up.

Poolside Events

Technical Clinics - During the final term of 2003 we held 3 technical clinics where we invited some of our experienced teachers and friends of the club to come in to help in some technical aspects of teaching/coaching. I would like to thanks Maureen Hine, Paul and Colin Smyth for running these sessions. These were very successful and I’m sure further sessions will be run during 2004.

Other events

2003 also saw the club run its Club Championship program, style competition time trials, Summer and Christmas Fun galas. Please enter these events they make the difference between being at swimming lessons and belonging to a swimming club.

Teaching

During 2003 we have seen a number of our teachers leave the club, all of them have given the club a lot of support over the years so on behalf of the swimmers, teachers and committee I would like to thank Sandra Barraclough, Barbara Colgan, Marcus Earnshaw and Wayne Owide.

We will also be saying goodbye very shortly to Cath Wehrle who has spent more years than either of us care to remember, teaching the non-swimmers. I don’t exactly know how many children she has taught, but I can ensure you it’s a lot! Thanks Cath.

The club is fortunate to have a number of volunteers to come poolside to train to be teachers, but we can never have enough so if you would like to help please see Baz or any teacher.

My thanks go to all the teachers and committee for their continued support over the last year. Thank you to Phill Holpin for covering the Poolside Managers role whilst I was away on business during the summer. Finally, to Jane and Howard Willis a special thank you for all your help, encouragement and advice over the past two years.

I wish all swimmers, teachers and committee all the best for the forthcoming year.
