Membership Report

The membership of Bushey ASC currently stands at 164 swimmers, which has been boosted by an excellent 52 new members joining us during 2003. Particularly pleasing is the fact that 35 new members have joined us with effect from the start of the September term, perhaps an indication that the increased publicity at Bushey Grove is paying off. Traditionally though, we have seen most of our swimmers join us through ‘word of mouth’, so please continue to tell your friends and families about us.

However despite seeing an excellent intake, we have had people leaving the club during the year, and not just through some of our elder swimmers moving on to college and University. The overall net increase in membership therefore amounts to 33, but that is very encouraging none the less.

As far as the waiting list is concerned, we have seen a constant level of interest from people wishing to join our club. We have been able to manage this waiting list though regular assessments throughout the year, and I would like to thank Wendy Cook and Baz Long for taking these assessments and for helping to keep the waiting list to a manageable length. As of the time of writing this report, we have only 5 children who have been assessed and awaiting places in the club. We also have a further 20 children yet to be assessed, although the majority of these will be assessed in early February. Again, all of this points to a healthy future for the club.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind existing swimmers and parents of the club policy regarding membership renewals. To ensure that the club has adequate insurance cover, all membership renewals must be paid by the last day of January and any termly fees paid by the due date for that term. I would also like to ask that the club be kept informed of any changes to membership details; addresses, telephone numbers etc.

Finally, it would be remiss of me not to thank Genie and Mick Molloy, from whom I took over the role of Membership Secretary half way through 2003. Their excellent stewardship during their term as membership secretaries has greatly helped me to ease into the role, and I thank them very much for that.
