During 2003 the
club has continued to monitor progress of our swimmers using the ASA Sprint
Speed Awards. We currently have 37 registered swimmers.
When a
swimmer achieves the qualifying times in competitive strokes they are presented
with their certificate.
The Bronze and Silver certificates are usually awarded
at club champs. The following most recently gained certificates were presented
at the Annual Awards Ceremony.
Ø
Bronze: Georgina Hardy
Stephen Raynsford

Several swimmers have reached Gold standard during this year. It is a real achievement to gain these awards as the swimmer has to demonstrate fast times across all strokes.

The style competition is a
unique event in the diary as the total emphasis is on style. Therefore it is not
necessarily the fastest swimmer that wins!
Swimmers are required to demonstrate
their swimming style over 3 strokes of their choice. Independent judges mark
each stroke and their scores are aggregated to give an overall score per stroke.
The winner is the swimmer achieving the highest score across their chosen
strokes.
The winners this year are:
Junior Boys
Michael Molloy
Junior Girls
Emily Raw
Senior Boys Robin Willis
Senior Girls Charlotte Cunningham

Congratulations to all
those swimmers for the PBs achieved in these challenging events.
Our greatest successes came in the Herts Age Groups where Tamsyn Willis achieved
overall 8th in 9yr old girls, Michael Molloy gained overall 3rd
in 10 yr old boys and Phillipa Hardy who came overall 2nd in 9
year old girls.
For this success the Chairman’s Shield goes to Phillipa Hardy.
Phillipa has decided to develop her competitive swimming at Barnet Copthal Club and we would like to take this opportunity to wish her every success as she strives to attain National Qualifying times.

We
need to acknowledge the achievements of all our swimmers and the progress of
swimming in the club. We have had an outstanding year and this has been
recognised by other clubs and county officials.
In particular we must congratulate 5 swimmers who achieved maximum points within
their respective club championship event. To mark this we have Club Certificates
to present to:
U8 Boys Harry Edwards
U8 Girls Naomi Raw
U10 Boys Stephen Raynsford
U14 Girls Eva Waddup
Open Boys Stuart Long
The
Erica Cup is a special award presented to a swimmer who has excelled in their
swimming again this year. This year the swimmer won his age group with maximum
points together with the 50m Sprint. In doing so he also achieved 2 new club
records.
The Erica cup goes
for the 2nd year running to Stuart Long.
The Presidents cup is awarded to the swimmer who gained the best overall Club Championship result. As already explained this year 5 club swimmers were in contention for this particular award. This year we have selected a winner who not only came first in all 5 events but also came first in his Style Age Group and came second overall in the Junior Boys Style and won his 50m Sprint event. To cap all this he set two new club records for U10 Boys. In recognition of a truly remarkable year the Presidents Cup goes to Stephen Raynsford.
The
final award this year does not go to an individual but reflects gala swimming
successes. This year the Peanuts squad really put Bushey’s name back on the map
by coming 2nd in Division 2 and achieving promotion to Division 1 of
the Herts League.
We would like the 2003 Club Captains to accept the Vice Chairman’s shield on
behalf of the Peanuts squad.
Finally there are medals for everyone who swam for the club in a gala during 2003. 81 swimmers have represented the club.
