Badges Report

Having recently taken over as badge secretary, I’d like to make everyone aware of the ASA Speed Award badge scheme that BASC operates and that many of our swimmers currently take part in.

These awards (bronze, silver, gold and platinum) can be gained by achieving target times in events held under ASA rules. i.e. Club championships, galas, time trials and open meets.

The target times for these awards and whether you have achieved them can be found by looking on the website under “Swimtimes”.

Once you reach a target time, I will issue a badge slip which allows you to purchase the relevant badges and participate in the scheme. Badges and certificates cost £2.20, and a flash for each stroke costs £1.00. Once a swimmer has attained an award in all 4 strokes and IM, their certificate can then be presented at the next AGM.

This scheme gives swimmers personal goals to work towards, and the badges can perhaps be sewn onto a BASC T-bag or hoody to be shown off at galas.  We currently offer sprint awards for times achieved in events up to 100m, but middle distance awards for times in 200m and 400m events can also be purchased if desired.

If you have any questions regarding the badge scheme, please come and see me. Similarly, if you have not kept up to date with purchasing badges, would like any replacing, or believe you have attained awards that I may have overlooked, please do come and ask me.
