Awards]
We now move to the bit you have been waiting for - when we recognise the achievements of all our club swimmers and present awards to a large proportion of them to mark their endeavour and success. I am pleased to welcome Wendy Cook, our President, to join us to present tonight's awards.
A special reminder to the winners: some of these awards (the cups and shields) are only yours for a year – many of them are very old and some are very valuable. Please do look after them – treat them with care and clean them with the proper cleaning materials. If you get one of these awards, you will get an insurance statement that needs to be signed and returned to the Treasurer immediately. Because you cannot keep these trophies we will at next year’s AGM give you a replica award and certificate to mark the achievement – the replicas and certificates for our 2011 trophy winners are over there waiting for collection.
Speed Award Certificates
During 2012 the club has continued to monitor progress of our swimmers using the ASA Sprint Awards. The times are shown on the club website.
When a swimmer achieves the qualifying times in all four competitive strokes and the individual medley we present them with their certificate at the Annual Awards Ceremony. I would like to mention that in 2012, we saw an exceptional number of swimmers achieving these competitive swimming performance awards. So tonight we have:
· At Bronze level: Joanne Blackwell; Sophia Colville; Lukas Gilbert; Sarah Imansoura; Laura Jones; Michael Kirwan; Rebecca Saville; Sophie Spencer; Charlotte Watson; Daniel Westlake; Timothy Wheatley.
· At Silver level: Ella Bailey; Isobel Bird; Joanne Blackwell; Chiara Brown; Briony Gooden; Lewis Humphreys; Sarah Imansoura; Elizabeth Leeland-Cunningham; Jenny Marett; Lauren Smith; Lara Sulaman; Elizabeth Tang; Charlotte Watson.
· At Gold level: Shasheen Payoe; Victoria Pope; Hannah Rose; Aimee Sheerin; Elizabeth Shermer; Mia Springer; Elizabeth Tang; Charlotte Watson.
· At Platinum level: Steven Binns; Victoria Pope.
Because of the continuing success of our swimmers we have a very special award for the most significant achievement in terms of speed awards.
The BASC FULL HOUSE AWARD is presented to those swimmers who achieve gold times at 25m and 50m in all 4 competitive strokes and the 100m Individual Medley, plus platinum times over 100m in all 4 competitive strokes, the 200m freestyle, the 200m IM and the 1500m freestyle. In 2012 – the fifth year of making this award the Full House has been achieved by three swimmers and we have certificates and an award to present to them tonight.

The medals and pennants for these were not presented on the night, because we like to present these at tonight’s award ceremony. The 200IM competition is always tricky as you have to be able to swim two lengths of all four strokes, one after the other. This can lead to disqualification in some cases, particularly when tiredness sets in. We are very pleased tonight to present the age group winners for the 200IM competition:-

Most Improved Swimmer Cup
This category always provokes a lively debate. We consider gala performance, club champs results and time trials in terms of competition results. Then we add: development of style and stroke, the technical areas of starts and turns. Attitude, behaviour and commitment also feature and of course we look at the overall development of the swimmers. In 2012 one of our junior swimmer’s improvement in all these aspects was striking.
This year the Most Improved Swimmer Cup goes to Jack Fagan
Endeavour Plaques
The next set of awards is made to swimmers who have really worked hard at their swimming throughout 2012. Teachers nominate swimmers for these awards. The awards for 2012 go to:

Overall Endeavour Award
Training hard and training smart are equally important. The teachers do notice who is listening and trying to develop their strokes and drills. Ultimately performance in the water comes down to strength, stamina and technical ability. But the swimmers must constantly try hard and challenge themselves to develop. This means that presence and enthusiasm to learn need to be there in abundance. This swimmer’s efforts throughout the year met these criteria fully and were an example to others. He has also been a pleasure to teach and a joy to have in the club.
This year the Bill Dowse goblet for Endeavour goes to Kaden Elsey
Club Performance Awards
The club likes to give special recognition to those swimmers who have performed consistently to a high standard for the club at training sessions and galas. The Tony Amos award is usually presented to one of our younger swimmer to recognise Tony’s interest in teaching juniors. This year the Tony Amos award is shared by two of our young swimmers who are already showing great promise. Both scored maximum club championship points in their age group, and have achieved many PBs over the course of the year.
The Tony Amos cup goes to Erin O’Meara and James Pope
Chairman’s Shield
The Chairman's Shield is awarded to the swimmer who has achieved the best results in Open Competitions. As you will see from the Open Meet report in the pack, we have had another busy year. Many swimmers have performed extremely well at Open Meets, including County Championships. However, this year we had one swimmer who went on to compete in both the Youth and Senior Winter Championships at Regional level. For this achievement
The Chairman’s Shield goes to JonLuke Summerfield
Gala Performance
The next two awards are made by our Club Captains for 2012: Jonluke Summerfield and Kezzie Brown.
In 2012 we have witnessed some outstanding swimming within our representative squads. But two swimmers have consistently stood out for their approach and personal commitment to the team. They are both great athletes in their own right and highly motivated to improving performance and this approach is of great influence and benefit to the rest of the squad.
This year the Girls Captain’s award goes to
Gala Performance Girls Award goes to Aimee Sheerin
The Boys Captain’s award goes to
Gala Performance Boys Award goes to Louis Rose
And so to the final awards of the evening.
Vice Chairman’s Shield
The Vice Chairman’s Shield is awarded at the discretion of the teachers, and recipients are those who have made significant contributions to club activities. This year, the award goes to someone who has made a huge contribution on the teaching side over many years. Most recently, he has worked with the senior squad inspiring them to perform well. The results of his work were demonstrated during 2012 as Bushey were promoted to the first division of the Herts Major League. We unanimously agreed this deserved to be recognized formally and publicly and so
The Vice Chairman’s Shield for 2012 is awarded to Richard Henson
President’s Cup
The President’s Cup is awarded to Bushey ASC’s overall swimmer of the year. There have been some outstanding performances this year across all the age groups, we have seen club records broken and many personal best times set. This year’s award winner achieved maximum club championship points, has won the 200m Freestyle, 200m IM and 1500m Freestyle events. In addition, she has achieved over 20 PBs during the year.
The President’s Cup goes to the girl’s club captain Kezzie Brown
Erica Cup
The Erica Cup is awarded to recognise special achievement. In 2012, one swimmer has continued to improve his times, and has achieved maximum club championship points. He won the Open 50m Sprint, 200m Freestyle, and 200 IM competitions. He has set over 20 PB times and qualified to swim at the Regional Championships.
The Erica Cup goes to the boy’s club captain Jonluke Summerfield
Gala Awards
Finally we have an award for everyone who has swum for the Club in an external gala during 2012. 102 swimmers - 56 girls and 46 boys have represented Bushey ASC – to save your hands from getting sore I will announce their names in alphabetical order – girls then boys in groups of 10.
