Achievement Awards

We now move to the exciting part of the evening when we recognise the achievements of all our club swimmers and present awards to a large proportion of them to mark their endeavour and success.

A special reminder to the winners:  some of these awards (the cups and shields) are only yours for a year – many of them are very old and some are very valuable.  Please do look after them – treat them with care and clean them with the proper cleaning materials.  If you get one of these awards, David Evans will give you an insurance statement that needs to be signed and returned to him immediately.  Because you cannot keep these trophies we will at next year’s AGM give you a replica award and certificate to mark the achievement – the replicas and certificates for our 2005 trophy winners are over there waiting for collection.

Speed Awards Certificates

During 2006 the club has continued to monitor progress of our swimmers using the ASA Sprint Awards.  The times are shown on the club website.   We now have 57 swimmers registered for the scheme.

When a swimmer achieves the qualifying times in all competitive strokes and the individual medley they are presented with their certificate.  At the Annual Awards Ceremony tonight we are presenting the most recently gained certificates:

But perhaps the most significant achievement in terms of speed awards this year is:

1500 Metre Competition

In the 1500 metre competition of 2006 22 swimmers completed the 1500 metre swim – this is 65 lengths of the Haberdashers Pool; and all swimmers did it in less than 32 minutes.  To mark this we are presenting them with a special medal tonight:

The Vice Chairman’s Shield this year goes to Colin Smyth. Colin is a valuable member of our coaching staff. His association with the club goes back many years and if you care to look you will find his name on some of the silverware that has been awarded tonight from when he used to swim for BASC in his younger years. Nowadays you will find Colin using his skill and expertise to develop our most promising younger gala squad swimmers. He continues to volunteer his time to BASC as he enjoys passing on his knowledge and skills and as a club we are privileged to benefit from this commitment. As a mark of our respect and thanks we have decided to recognise this by the award of the trophy.

President’s Cup – Eva Waddup

The President’s Cup is awarded to the overall swimmer of the year. This year’s award winner won their Club Championship age group along with the 50m, 200m and 1500m competitions.  In recognition of an excellent year’s swimming
