During this year we have seen swimmers join Bushey ASC at a rate of just over 1 per week - 59 in fact over the whole year. This has led to the overall membership currently standing at 167 swimmers (as at the time of the AGM), which represents the highest membership for a number of years. The increased publicity around Bushey Grove Leisure Centre is clearly helping, and we have also seen a number of swimmers joining us from adjacent clubs, proving that the Club is held in high regard in the area.
As is always the case we have had people leaving the Club during the year for a variety of reasons, resulting in a net increase in membership during 2004 of 29.
As the above figures indicate, we continue to see a constant level of interest from people wishing to join our Club and our waiting list has remained very healthy throughout the year. In fact, the waiting list has been at its highest for quite some time and I’m thankful to some of our Teachers for increasing the size of their classes so that the list remains manageable. Having said that though, I’d like to reassure you that the Club’s focus remains on the quality of teaching and learning rather than the quantity of swimmers.
We have also been able to manage the waiting list though regular assessments throughout the year, and I would like to thank Baz Long, Phill Holpin and Kerry Lockett for taking these assessments.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind existing swimmers and parents of the Club policy regarding membership renewals. To ensure that the Club has adequate insurance cover, all membership renewals must be paid by the last day of January and any termly fees paid by the due date for that term. Also, I would like to remind all swimmers to ensure that they register their attendance each Sunday at the front desk. This allows the Club to have an ‘at-a-glance’ view of attendance figures. I would also like to ask that the Club be kept informed of any changes to membership details; addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses etc.
Finally, many thanks for the help and support of everyone associated with the Club during 2004, and let’s hope that 2005 can be just as successful.
Adrian Edwards
