Achievement Awards

A special reminder to the winners:  some of these awards (the cups and shields) are only yours for a year – many of them are very old and some are very valuable.  Please do look after them – treat them with care and clean them with the proper cleaning materials.  Because you cannot keep these trophies we will at next year’s AGM give you a replica award and certificate to mark the achievement.

Speed Awards Certificates

During 2004 the club has continued to monitor progress of our swimmers using the ASA Sprint Awards.  The times are shown on the club website.   We now have 46 swimmers registered for the scheme.

When a swimmer achieves the qualifying times in all competitive strokes and the individual medley they are presented with their certificate.  At the Annual Awards Ceremony we are presenting the most recently gained certificates:

But perhaps the most significant achievement in terms of speed awards this year is:

1500 Metre Competition

In the last competition of 2004, 22 swimmers completed the 1500 metre swim – this is 65 lengths of the Haberdashers Pool; and all swimmers did it in less than 34 minutes.  To mark this we are presenting them with a special medal:

Club Championships

As usual we held three Club Championships during the year.  Points are awarded for each event and the overall age group winner for the boys and for the girls respectively is presented with the age group award.  This year quite unusually no swimmer achieved maximum points in club championship events for their age group – however we did see seven Club Championship records broken in the year –

These were:

Five of these records were broken at the last club championships of the year and we have the certificates to mark these achievements to present to the swimmers concerned.

50 Metre Sprint Race Overall Winners

In addition to the Club Championship events we also hold some special races.

The 50 metre sprint race is held at the third club championships.

This year the Club is delighted to introduce two new awards for this event.  Wendy Cook, club member, swim teacher, former poolside manager and daughter of Bryan Cook has donated two shields to be awarded to the Junior (that is Under 12 years) winning boy and girl of this event.

200 Metre Race Overall Winners

The 200 metre event was swum on 9 May 2004.

1500 Metre Race Overall Winners

As mentioned earlier the 1500 metre event was our final event of the year in December.

Junior and Senior Style Competitions

The style competition is a unique event in the Club diary as the total emphasis is on style – so it is not necessarily the fastest swimmer that wins!

Swimmers have to demonstrate their swimming style over three strokes of their choice.  Independent judges mark each stroke and their scores are aggregated to give an overall score per stroke.  The winner is the swimmer achieving the highest score across their chosen strokes.

In 2004 our winners are:

TROPHIES & PLAQUES

As overall most improved we have a swimmer who has significantly improved her times in all strokes and continues to demonstrate improved technique, in addition she won her age group at Club Championships and the Girls 1500m swim. The most improved Cup goes to one of the senior swimmers who through determination and hard work have consistently improved in all strokes in the year.

Endeavour Plaques

The next set of awards is made to swimmers who have really worked hard at their swimming throughout 2004.  Teachers nominate swimmers for these awards and this year there were a lot of contenders.  After much deliberation the awards this year go to

Boys Girls

Robbie Waddup Mollie Churney
Adam McQuire Aneka Ganatra
Matthew Petrie Sakhee Ganatra
Daniel Gibbs Debbie Wood
Alexander Keary Alison Binns
Max Wolf Madison Harding-White

Overall Endeavour

The overall endeavour award goes to a young swimmer who through determination and hard worked has excelled in all aspects of her swimming this year and can be justly proud of what she has achieved.

Tony Amos

The Tony Amos award is usually presented to one of our young swimmers to recognise Tony’s interest in teaching juniors.
This year the Tony Amos award goes to a swimmer who has worked extremely hard throughout the season to improve her overall swimming and during the latter part of the season this was most notable with the excellent improvement in both her times and technique.

Chairman’s Shield

The Chairman’s Shield is awarded to the swimmer who has achieved the best results in Open Competitions.

In 2004 we had a good entry of club swimmers take part in the County BAGCAT competitions and several other Open Meets.  A lot of personal best times were swum.  However, one club member had particular success at the Herts Age Groups and so for 2004 the Chairman’s Shield is awarded to a young man who came 5th in his age group events at county level.

Gala Performance

The next two awards are made by our Club Captains for 2004:  Stacie Long and Alice Cheng:

Vice Chairman’s Shield

The Vice Chairman’s Shield this year goes to one of our older swimmers who encompasses everything that Bushey swimming club is about. As well as representing the club competitively during the session he has also given up much of his spare time to assist: with the width lessons, at internal club events and he has even managed to teach the odd lesson here and there. But maybe more importantly it is his genuine interest in and also his ability to inter-relate with our younger swimmers that make him someone that they look up to.

President’s Cup

The President’s Cup is awarded to the overall swimmer of the year. This year’s award winner won their Club Championship age group along with the 200m and 1500m competitions.  The winner has also shown personal dedication towards improving his PBs. In recognition of an excellent year
