Gala Report

HERTS MAJOR LEAGUE

In 2017 we had just one team for Herts Major Gala’s, this team included a lot of strong swimmers across all age groups.  There was always great team spirit at each round with some swimmers having to step up last minute to cover many races.  The teams over the 3 rounds achieved a fantastic 77 PB’s and 34 ASA speed awards. We placed 2nd in round 1, 2nd in round 2 and 5th in round 3.  Finishing 5th overall in division 2. Thank you to the swimmers for being so well behaved at all the galas and the whips for their hard work poolside.

GOLDSTONE AND ISABEL GALAS

We also participate in two friendly galas each year which are Goldstone and Isabel.  The Goldstone gala was held in May where we ended up 3rd on the night.  The Isabel gala in September we finished in 2nd place.  Both galas were great fun and gave an opportunity for swimmers who were not selected for Herts and Arena league to compete for Bushey.

PEANUTS

The Peanuts league starts in the spring months and is for younger swimmers (under 13), it is a great opportunity to introduce the swimmers to Galas within a friendly atmosphere and to build new friendships. Across the 3 galas there were 65 PB's and 16 ASA speed awards and 2 Club records.

ARENA LEAGUE

Our final league of the year is the Arena League. This a tougher league due to all the other clubs being far bigger than us. However, we held our own and performed very well this year with Club records broken in every round, PB rates were very high which is great as this league is a licensed competition meaning times counted towards County & Regional championships.  We came 6th in Round 1, 6th in Round 2 & 4th in Round 3.  Across all three rounds there were 7 new club records, 61 PBs and 17 ASA speed awards. We also hosted the Round Two gala, so I would like to thank all those who helped make the evening a success, especially Caroline Presland for organising everything back stage.

At each gala we give out swimmer of the night awards for various reasons.  A big well done to the following that were given swimmer of the night this year:
