Gala Report

2015 was a great year of gala competitions for Bushey ASC where we competed in: Herts Major League, Peanuts League, Isabel Gala & Arena League.  These leagues are plenty of fun and is a great chance to compete and socialise against other Hertfordshire Clubs as well as clubs in the London area.

Herts Major League was a 'major' success.  We put out two teams again in 2015 which gives twice the amount of swimmers to be selected! The A team came 3rd in Round 1,  2nd in Round 2 and just missed out on 3rd place in Round 3 by coming a respectable 4th.   The B team came 5th in Round 1, 4th in Round 2 and finished a respectable 5th in Round 3.   Team spirit was on fire from both teams and there was a lot of club records broken across the three rounds.

Peanuts was a great success winning the first two galas and coming third in the final gala placed us second overall and promotion to division 1. We were very proud of all the swimmers and the effort that they put into individual races as well as relays which were fantastic as usual. Overall we achieved 62 PB's, 12 ASA speed award, 39 first places and 2 club records over the three gala's.

Isabel gala was also a great success gaining 31 first places, 18 PB's, 2 club records and 2 new ASA speed awards illustrating all the hard work of the swimmers. The atmosphere of the team was great and thoroughly enjoyed by all and not just because we won!

Our final league of the year and first league of the swimming season was Arena League.  This is a lot tougher league due to our London club competitors however we performed very well this year.  Club records were broken every round and the PB rates were very high which was great as this league is a licensed competition meaning times counted towards County & Regional championships.  Our relay teams have got a lot stronger with a lot of our age groups winning the medley and freestyle relays consistently across all three rounds.  We came 6th in Round 1, 5th in Round 2 & 3rd in Round 3.  We finished the league 11th in our division which is an excellent achievement against some great competition.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the coaches and team managers for putting so much work into selecting the teams.  Without you all we wouldn't be able to give our swimmers the chance to compete as part of a team at these galas.

Jack Jackson and Karen Jones, on behalf of the gala team
