There are very few occasions when all club members – swimmers and/or parents – are in the same place at the same time. With the introduction of the new Sunday swimming sessions at Watford Central Pool it has become even more difficult! That makes it a challenge to communicate with club members and make sure everyone knows what is going on. During 2009 we continued communicating through paper-based methods such as the newsletter and electronic methods such as email and the website. We have even introduced a new SMS Text Message service for urgent communications such as pool closure – something which has come in too useful in the recent weather.

This year, the Hertfordshire Life magazine wrote an article on the club – as part of a special feature on clubs and societies in Hertfordshire. They even came along to the pool and took some photos. In addition Bushey Grove Leisure Centre has produced a new centre brochure in which we have an advert. All this aims to maintain our visibility in the community and help ensure a supply of new members.

I have been producing the club newsletter for three years now and those of you that have been reading it that long will recognise some old articles coming back – you could think of them as an unwanted repeat or as an opportunity for a new member to read them. It has been great fun to do the newsletter, but it is time to hand over the reins to someone else. But who? If you would be interested in taking this on please let me know and I can give you all the training needed (none really!)

The newsletter is a one-way form of communication – it is us telling you what we think you need to know. It would be much better to make it two-way – feedback would be really useful. Ask us questions, send us comments and give us your views. Communication is essential when we have so many people doing so many things at so many different times. The worst thing that you can do or say is nothing!
