Club Championships

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009

BASC has run 3 busy Championship galas this year; the highlight was our first visit to the new pool at Watford Woodside Leisure Centre where we enjoyed the spacious surroundings and the use of the automated results system.

An average of 111 swimmers entered the 3 events and they achieved:

·        10 NEW CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RECORDS

·        144 speed awards

·        14 club records

·        421 personal best times

150 of our swimmers scored Championship points with special congratulations to Jack O’Malley who repeated his 2008 success by winning 7 out of 7 in the Under 8 Boys events!

Many congratulations to our new record holders and to all our swimmers for their personal achievements at Club Championships. 

DISTANCE COMPETITIONS

200m – This took place over the Bank Holiday weekend in early May and there was an excellent turnout of 40 swimmers; they broke 3 Club records and achieved 38 PBs between them. There were also new Championship records for:

Alison Binns   U14 GIRLS 2:30.47

Michael Molloy          017 BOYS 2:14.53

 

200m IM - This was swum just before the end of term in July; 30 swimmers took part and (as usual!) there were some excellent achievements with 8 Club records set, 5 new Platinum awards and a new Championship record.

1500m – This year’s 1500m event was squeezed into the calendar despite all the problems circumstances threw at it, before Bushey Grove closed for refurbishment - no mean feat for everyone involved in its organisation!

 

We must also say a big ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who has helped with the running of our Club competitions; they are a vital part of our swimmers’ preparation for representing BASC in external galas and we could not stage them without you!
