As stated in the 3 year plan for BASC the role of Club Welfare Officer has been identified as one that endeavours to oversee all aspects of welfare for the club and its’ members. The role is to implement good practice and child protection policies within the club.
Liaising with club members and poolside staff who have identified safety issues or concerns is an important part of the role, to ensure a safe environment. It is well supported by the Committee members and at County level. BASC follows the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) Child Protection Guidelines (Wavepower document), available on the website or as a hardcopy in the folder on the desk on Sunday’s.
The role of Club Welfare Officer is to support all members of the club, volunteers and swimmers. This has included reviewing operating procedures of the pools in use, the health and personal safety of swimmers and the recording and investigating of incidents and accidents.
Throughout the year the process of applying for Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) disclosures for all adult members of the club, and those swimmers assisting poolside staff in the pool, has been and is an ongoing process.
The training for all active volunteers, in the areas of ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’ and ‘Disability Awareness’, has been well received during the year and will be an ongoing training course within the club.
Thank you to all members who have supported me in the role as Club Welfare Officer during the year, I am delighted to continue in the role and welcome your continued support, ideas and suggestions to promote safety for all club members.
The CWO can be contacted:
direct when on poolside

via the BASC Feedback and Complaints form (available to download from the policies section on the website) complete and leave on the desk on a Sunday
or email welfare@busheyasc.org
Alternatively
Any Committee member can be approached with a concern if the CWO is unavailable, the information will be forwarded as soon as is possible.
