Club Championships

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS              

BASC has run 3 hectic Championship galas this year; entry numbers increased again with an average of 128 swimmers at each event. Again there were some wonderful achievements:

13 NEW CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RECORDS

149 speed awards

26 club records

427 personal best times

170 of our swimmers scored Championship points during the year with 3 of them achieving maximum points over the year by winning all their races; a special mention must go to Jack O’Malley who won 7 out of 7 in the Under 8 Boys events! 

Championship records were broken at all 3 galas this year but particular congratulations must go to Alison Binns who has had a fantastic year, breaking 5 of the 6 Championship records in Under 14 Girls events and now holds no fewer than 9 Championship records including the Open 200m freestyle The records broken were:

Many congratulations to our new record holders and to all our swimmers for their personal achievements at Club Championships. 

 

DISTANCE COMPETITIONS

200m – Things got off (or nearly didn’t!) to an uncertain start when we arrived to find that the pool booking had not been recorded by Bushey Grove in their diary; the event was saved by the Treasurer’s excellent filing system. 39 swimmers competed, achieving 7 Club records and 32 PBs between them.

 

200m IM - this new event for Bushey ASC took place in early July and was very successful; 31 swimmers competed on the night and there were some great swims. 14 swimmers broke the time for the platinum speed award and 10 Club records were set, excellent for a first attempt!

 

1500m – The turnout for the first 1500m to be held over the genuine distance in a 25m pool was not quite what the Club had hoped, largely due to illness which robbed us of 6 of our entrants. 20 swimmers took part in the event and returned some excellent times, particularly Alison Binns, Alice Garnier and Harry Edwards who all achieved platinum times and showed a number of older swimmers the way home!! Overall there were 16 PBs and 5 new Club records over the distance.

 

We must also say a big ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who has helped with the running of our Club competitions; they are a vital part of our swimmers’ preparation for representing BASC in external galas and we could not stage them without you!
