SPEED AWARD BADGE SCHEME

Sadly, Swim England announced that they will be discontinuing the competitive speed award badges in 2020, so unfortunately I won’t be able to offer swimmers the chance to buy badges this year. 

This is a shame as the speed award badge scheme continued to be popular last year, providing a great incentive for swimmers to work towards achieving personal goals.  However, the goal of attaining Bronze, Silver Gold & Platinum times will carry on as before, just without the actual badge to buy (so parents no longer have to practise their sewing…every cloud etc).  Swimmers will still be awarded certificates at the next Awards night when they have completed all 4 strokes and IM at that level.

Speed awards are gained when swimmers achieve target times set by Swim England, in events held under Swim England rules.  i.e. Club championships, galas, time trials and open meets.  The target times for these awards and whether you have achieved them can be found by looking on the website under ‘Swimtimes’.  

In 2019, 37 badge awards and 128 stroke flashes were bought, slightly down on last year. This scheme was non-profit making for the club.  Badges were sold at cost price purely to provide incentive for the swimmers to improve their times and enjoy striving towards personal goals.

I have recently handed out the last badge slips for 2019 and will do my best to provide badges for these. Whilst I will not be offering badges to buy in 2020, I may still have some left in stock.  So if you believe that your child has attained a particular badge, and you would like to see if I still have it available to buy, please do ask (badges@busheyasc.org).
