Club Championships

BASC has had a busy year for club competitions with three Club Championship events and the 200m Freestyle, 200m IM and 1500m Freestyle competitions.

Over 100 swimmers entered the 3 main events, covering over 700 swims between them and they achieved

• 6 NEW CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RECORDS

• 151 speed awards

• 23 club records

• 465 personal best times

The Championship records broken this year included:

Oliver Taverner U12 50m Backstroke 39.48 (Harry Edwards 39.50 1992)

Nicola Marett U8 12m Breaststroke 14.25 (Aimee Garcia 14.26 2009)

Katherine Evans Open 50m Sprint 30.14 (Tamsyn Willis 30.22 2010)

George Henson O17 50m Sprint 26.18 (Stuart Long 26.62 2004)

Katherine Evans O17 50m Sprint 30.13 (Tamsyn Willis 30.39 2010)

Many congratulations to our new record holders and to all our swimmers for their personal achievements at Club Championships.

We must also say a big ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who has helped with the running of our Club competitions; they are a vital part of our swimmers’ preparation for representing BASC in external galas and we could not stage them without you!

The major change in administration this coming year is that all Under 8’s events are now going to be 25m events. This is in support of the changes taking place at the junior end of the club where there will be regular lengths sessions taking place at our new St Margaret’s venue on Sundays. The order of events will be published on the website as each competition is opened.

Please keep an eye on the “splash screen” on our website for details as to when entries open and please do not wait until the last minute before entering – it makes it much harder to gauge the entry size and therefore work out the heats and timings.
