Chair's Report

Good evening folks and welcome to the AGM and awards evening. It’s great that we can gather here tonight to celebrate our swimmers achievements over the past 12 months.

It is also the time when we thank all the dedicated volunteers who help run and maintain the values of the club. We celebrated our 90th Birthday at a great party organised by the social committee in the summer. It reminded me that the committee, teachers/coaches and all the other people who help out are just guardians of the club. Our job is to pass the club on to others in better condition than we received it. So thank you all for the most important thing you give this club, your time.

I don’t like mentioning people by name because it runs the risk of forgetting someone. However, Alan and Pam Brown will be spending the next 12 months handing over their vast wealth of knowledge to the new members looking after Admin to the Teachers, Bookings Secretary and Club Champs Admin before officially stepping down from their positions within the club. They have been part of the club as long as I can remember and I would like to say a special thank you to them for all their years of dedicated work and commitment.

We are constantly looking at ways to improve all aspects of the club. We started a re-structuring program last year of the swimming groups. We are going to improve upon the structure this year with the aim to maximise the pool time we have, standardise the annual swim plan and give all our swimmers the best opportunity to progress along the ASA competitive swimming pathway. We have had a number of additions to the teaching and coaching team this year. The dedication of you all makes me very proud. These extra teachers has enabled us to add a new group to the club, Little Dolphins, to attract younger swimmers.

Extra officials has allowed us to continue to run some licensed events. The times swum at these events are official and can be used for entry to counties.

Club and Championship records continue to improve. We had teams competing at Arena League, Herts Major League and Peanuts as well as other external galas. Swimmers have represented the club at counties, long and short course regional, master, and many open meets and we have had a magnificent number of entries to 2017 County Championships.

As always we need more help. Every aspect of the club needs extra hands. So please consider putting yourself forward to help out.

Good luck to our swimmers and members in all aspects of their lives in 2017!
