We would like to draw your attention to the following details of the club. BASC is a swimming club that develops members' strokes to enhance their achievement in this sport. We are not an alternative to swimming lessons as the focus is on competitive development. As a club, we expect all our members to compete in all internal competitions and also attend galas against other clubs when selected. BASC membership is open to children aged 5 or older who are able to swim unaided i.e. without the aid of floatation devices, and subject to successful completion of a swimming assessment prior to joining. Our club night is Sunday and all swimmers are expected to swim at their allocated time on a weekly basis. Younger swimmers generally start in width classes running between 4pm and 6pm at St. Margarets School. Upon development, swimmers progress to length classes between 4pm and 6pm at Bushey Grove Leisure Centre. More able swimmers swim between 6pm and 8.30pm. Our initial assessment will involve a short examination of the swimmer's ability. Strokes, efficiency and skills will be considered and a decision made as to which session is most suitable for the individual. While every effort is made to offer new members a place as quickly as possible, there is no guarantee that a place will be found immediately after this assessment. Children must be accompanied at all times by parent(s) / guardian(s) on the poolside. The club is run on a voluntary basis from teaching to championship officiating. BASC always encourages help from and the involvement of all parents wherever possible. Parents of members are expected to assist with reception desk duties at least one Sunday afternoon per year on a rota basis. Failure to do so may jeopardise any membership of the club.
